Eugene, Oregon – The Oregon Track Club Elite will be competing at the USATF Indoor National Championships this weekend (February 27-28th) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Indoor National Championships, which are being held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, is the qualifying event for the IAAF World Indoor Championships to be held in Doha, Qatar on March 12-14th. Many of the OTC Elite athletes competing this weekend have been training at Albuquerque’s nearly 6,000 feet of altitude since the middle of January to prepare for the event.
The lone OTC Elite entrant in the Men’s 400 Meters is Oregon’s former quarter mile standout, Matt Scherer. He heads into the US Indoor Championship ranked 9th in his former specialty as he looks to make the World Indoor Championship Team.
In the Men’s 1,500 Meters OTC Elite will be represented by Will Leer, Russell Brown and John Jefferson. Leer is the fastest ranked miler in the US, while Brown enters the Championships ranked 3rd. Jefferson who has quietly put together a fantastic indoor season will be looking to improve on his 12th seed heading into the meet.
The USATF Indoor Championships will be televised on ESPN2 on Sunday, February 28th from 7:00-9:00pm (EST). For results from the USATF Indoor Championships go to www.usatf.org. For updates on OTC Elite visit the team website at: www.OTCelite.com or follow the team on Twitter: @OregonTCelite.
