FEBRUARY 22nd AVIVA GRAND PRIX, BIRMINGHAM, GBR 2007 World 100 meter bronze medalist Carmelita Jeter (USA/Nike) hit another gear in the second half of the women's 60 meters to run away from the field with a world leading time and personal best of 7.11.
Her previous best was 7.17 set in 2007. Jeter, who won her last two races in dominating fashion, will close out her 2009 Indoor campaign in Prague on February 26th. Also continuing a couple of streaks was 2008 World Indoor bronze medalist Andra Manson (USA/Nike) who now has a two meet unbeaten streak in the UK as he took the High Jump with a mark of 2.31 meters. In the process, Manson defeated the world leader Ivan Ukhov of Russia. Manson has been over 2.30 meters in his past three meetings and three of his four meets for the season. Manson started the streak in Glasgow in the Five Nation Match in late January. He'll close his indoor season on February 28th at the U.S. Indoor Champs in Boston where he'll defend last years title. Also having a strong performance in the Glasgow men's 60 meter hurdles was Olympic silver medalist David Payne (USA/Nike). Payne completed a brief indoor season placing second and losing by a very close .01 in a race, that at first, appeared he had won. UKRAINE NATIONAL CHAMPS - SUMY, UKR Natalya Lupu (UKR/Nike) won the women's 800 meters at the Ukrainian National Championships with an indoor personal best of 2:02.27. Lupu, the former European Junior Champion, will compete at the upcoming European Championships in Turin. This will be her first championship at the senior level.
